What is an authorisation? 
When a transaction is made it is at first referred to as an authorization. However, after the batch is sent in at the end of the day it becomes a financial transaction.
Can I process refund when it is still an authorisation?
On the same day, you can cancel an authorization, follow the link below for more information. By the following day you would refund the transaction, both fully and partially.

Can I partially refund an authorisation?
A partial refund for payment page transactions can only be made the following day once the authorization becomes a successful retail transaction.
